Main ingredients:
Chía — Τσία (Tsía).
Lemon — Λεμόνι (Lemóni).
1 tablespoon of chia seeds, approximately 10 g.
250 ml of water.
Juice of ½ fresh lemon.
½ teaspoon honey — Μέλι (Méli), optional.
Chia seeds provide fiber, protein, and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. Lemon adds vitamin C and flavor. This combination can be a simple way to add more fiber and fluids to your diet.
🥤 Step-by-step preparation
1. Hydrate the chia seeds
Place the chia seeds in the 250 ml of water. Let it sit for 15–30 minutes, until the seeds absorb water and form a gelatinous layer.
2. Add the lemon
Squeeze the juice of ½ lemon — Λεμόνι (Lemóni) over the preparation and mix well.
3. Sweeten if desired
You can add a small amount of honey — Μέλι (Méli) — although it’s not necessary. If you’re trying to reduce your sugar intake, it’s best to drink it unsweetened.
4. Stir and eat
Mix again and drink immediately, making sure the seeds are well hydrated.
🌱 What benefits can it provide?
Chia seeds are particularly interesting because of their fiber content. Fiber can contribute to the normal functioning of the digestive system and promote a feeling of fullness.
It also provides ALA, an omega-3 fatty acid of plant origin.
Lemon — Λεμόνι provides vitamin C, which contributes to the normal function of the immune system and to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.
⚖️ Does it help with weight loss?
Chia seeds can help increase the feeling of fullness due to their fiber content, but this drink does not burn fat or produce weight loss on its own.
To lose weight in a healthy way, the combination of diet, physical activity, sleep, and total calorie consumption is much more important.
It is also not necessary to take it on an empty stomach or for a specific number of days to obtain its nutritional benefits.
💧 An important tip
When you increase your fiber intake, be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day. Chia seeds should be soaked in water before consumption, especially if you’re eating large quantities.
⚠️ Caution
If you’re not used to consuming a lot of fiber, start with a small amount to avoid gas or bloating.
People with difficulty swallowing should take special care with chia seeds, as they expand when they absorb liquid.
And remember: chia seeds and lemon can be part of a healthy diet, but they are not a treatment for obesity nor do they replace a balanced diet.
