Fruit used:

Soursop — Γκουανάμπανα (Annona muricata).

It is a tropical fruit with white pulp and a sweet taste, which can be eaten fresh or added to smoothies and other preparations.

🥤 Recipe: Natural soursop smoothie

Ingredients for 1 serving:

1 cup of ripe soursop pulp, without seeds.

200 ml of water or milk.

½ banana, optional, to give it more creaminess.

Cinnamon to taste, optional.

🥄 Preparation

Carefully remove all the seeds from the soursop.

Place the pulp in the blender.

Add the water or milk and, if desired, half a banana.

Blend for a few seconds until you get a creamy drink.

Serve immediately.

🌱 What benefits can it provide?

Soursop can be part of a varied diet because it provides nutrients and plant compounds. Among its components, vitamin C stands out, a nutrient that plays a role in the normal functioning of the immune system and acts as an antioxidant.

However, it’s important to distinguish between eating the fruit as food and using concentrated soursop extracts. Scientific research on Annona muricata has found compounds with biological activity in laboratory studies, but there is still insufficient clinical evidence to claim that consuming soursop prevents or treats cancer, prostate disease, or other illnesses.

Therefore, a more responsible way to present this fruit is as part of a healthy diet, and not as a medicinal treatment.

⚠️ An important precaution

The seeds of the soursop should not be consumed. To prepare the smoothie, use only the pulp and carefully remove the seeds.

It is also not advisable to use leaves, seeds, bark, or roots in home remedies for consumption without professional guidance. Concentrated plant products can have different effects than consuming a fruit as food, and the safety of many herbal preparations is not well established.

🍃 And what about soursop leaves?

The leaves have a long history of traditional use, but it should not be claimed that soursop leaf tea cures insomnia, hypertension, prostate problems, infections, or cancer. The available evidence does not allow for such claims to be made with certainty.

If you want to take advantage of soursop in a simple way, the wisest thing to do is to consume the ripe, seedless fruit as part of a balanced diet.
