Hibiscus, Clove & Avocado Seed Herbal Drink

Looking for a simple homemade herbal drink with a beautiful color and a unique flavor? This recipe combines dried hibiscus flowers, whole cloves, and a small amount of dried avocado seed powder. The result is a flavorful beverage that can be enjoyed warm or chilled, depending on your preference.

Hibiscus gives the drink a naturally tangy taste and deep red color, while cloves add a warm, aromatic note. Avocado seed is included in a small amount to give the recipe its distinctive character. The drink is easy to prepare and requires only a few ingredients.

🥤 Ingredients

  • 2 cups (500 ml) water
  • 1 tablespoon dried hibiscus flowers
  • 4–5 whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon dried avocado seed powder, or a small piece of dried avocado seed, finely grated
  • 1 teaspoon honey, optional
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Pour 2 cups (500 ml) of water into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
  2. Once the water is boiling, add the dried hibiscus flowers and whole cloves.
  3. Add the dried avocado seed powder or the small amount of finely grated dried avocado seed.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and allow the mixture to simmer gently for approximately 10–15 minutes. Avoid using very high heat, as gentle simmering is sufficient to infuse the ingredients.
  5. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the drink rest for another 5 minutes. This allows the flavors to develop further.
  6. Carefully strain the mixture through a fine strainer to remove the hibiscus flowers, cloves, and any remaining pieces of avocado seed.
  7. Pour the prepared drink into a cup or glass.
  8. For a sweeter flavor, add 1 teaspoon of honey and stir until completely dissolved. You can also add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice for a brighter, more refreshing taste.
  9. Serve warm, or allow the drink to cool completely and enjoy it chilled with ice.

🍋 Serving Ideas

For a refreshing cold version, allow the drink to cool before placing it in the refrigerator. Serve over ice with a small lemon slice for an attractive presentation and a fresh citrus flavor.

If you prefer warm beverages, simply serve the drink after straining and add honey according to your taste.

You can also adjust the amount of honey or lemon to suit your personal preference. Since hibiscus already has a naturally tart flavor, a small amount of honey can create a pleasant balance.

⚠️ Important Note

This recipe is intended as a flavored herbal beverage, not as a medical treatment, remedy, or substitute for professional medical advice. The use of avocado seeds as a food or drink ingredient has limited evidence regarding regular consumption and safety, so it is best not to consume large amounts. You may also leave the avocado seed out if you prefer a simpler hibiscus-and-clove drink.

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an existing health condition, take prescription or other regular medications, or are unsure whether these ingredients are suitable for you, consult a qualified healthcare professional before consuming the beverage.

Enjoy this homemade drink in moderation and focus on its flavor rather than treating it as a health remedy. 🌺☕
