Vaseline (petroleum jelly) has been used for generations to protect dry areas and limit the skin’s loss of moisture. Thanks to its occlusive effect, it can be particularly useful for cracked heels, dry lips, chapped hands and rough areas. Here are 17 ways to integrate it into your homemade beauty routine.

1. Vaseline + coconut oil: dry skin and stretch marks

Mix 2 teaspoons of coconut oil with 2 teaspoons of Vaseline. Massage the affected areas in the evening. This blend provides intense hydration, although it cannot make stretch marks disappear.

2. Vaseline + beetroot: dry lips

Add a pinch of beetroot powder to a teaspoon of Vaseline. Apply the mixture to your lips to protect them from dryness and give them a light pink tint.

3. Vaseline for cracked heels

Apply a thin layer on clean heels before going to bed, then wear cotton socks. Regular use helps gradually soften very dry skin.

4. Vaseline + turmeric: pigment spots

Mix a small amount of turmeric with a teaspoon of Vaseline. This traditional recipe can be used as a cosmetic treatment, but it is not suitable for treating dark spots.

5. Vaseline + oil: nourishing face treatment

A small amount of Vaseline, mixed with a few drops of olive oil or baby oil, can create a very nourishing treatment for dry skin. Avoid applying essential oils and spices such as cloves on the face, as they can be irritating.

6. Vaseline + vitamin E: lash care

Mix a small amount of Vaseline with vitamin E. Apply the mixture very gently on the lashes, avoiding the eye contour. This blend may hydrate them, but its effectiveness in accelerating growth has not been demonstrated.

7. Vaseline + rice powder: soft skin

Mix a little rice flour with Vaseline for a very gentle exfoliating treatment. Avoid applying lemon juice directly on the face, especially before sun exposure.

8. Small superficial scratches

Vaseline can keep a small superficial wound clean, creating a moist environment favorable to healing. However, it must not be used as the only treatment for a deep, infected wound or a serious burn.

9. Makeup remover

A small amount on a cotton pad can dissolve the most stubborn makeup. Then gently cleanse your face.

10. Vaseline + olive oil: mature skin

Mix a teaspoon of Vaseline with a few drops of olive oil. Apply on the hands or other dry areas. Greater hydration can make fine wrinkles temporarily less visible.

11. “Glass skin” effect

Apply a tiny amount on the top of the cheekbones for an instant luminous, radiant finish.

12. Vaseline + coconut + olive: body dryness

Mix 3 teaspoons of Vaseline, 2 of coconut oil and 1 of olive oil. Apply the mixture on slightly damp skin after the shower.

13. Dry ends and frizz

Rub a very small amount between your fingers and then apply it only on dry ends.

14. Vaseline + coffee: exfoliation

A small amount of finely ground coffee mixed with Vaseline can be used occasionally as a body scrub. Massage gently without rubbing vigorously.

15. Dry eye contour

A very thin layer can limit dryness of the eye contour. Vaseline hydrates, but does not act directly on the cause of dark circles.

16. Vaseline + castor oil: eyebrows

A few drops of castor oil mixed with Vaseline can be used to nourish the eyebrows. However, evidence of a real effect on their growth is still limited.

17. Vaseline and age spots

Vaseline can protect dry skin, but alone it will not make dark spots disappear. Daily sun protection remains essential to prevent them from getting worse.

Why does Vaseline work so well on dry skin?

Its main advantage is simple: it forms an occlusive barrier that reduces water loss. It is therefore particularly useful for chapped lips, dry heels, rough hands and areas exposed to the cold.

Always do a skin test before adding any other ingredient. A spot that changes shape or color, an infected wound or persistent irritation requires a medical consultation.
